July 2-4, 2025 Lake Naivasha Resort, Kenya

Kenya is rich in cultural diversity with a preserved array of languages, food, customs, art, music, dance, compassion, and community. Harambee, Swahili for “all put together,” embodies Kenya’s dedication to working together towards the betterment of the community. This encourages youth to learn self-respect, self-reliance, citizenship, positive communication, and problem-solving skills. Currently, the Kenyan Ministry of Education is focusing on capacity building on inclusive practices, increasing family involvement, and scaling up access to training, services, and resources to ensure youth with disabilities grow into successful adults. Like much of the world, Kenya is also trying to get their educators to move from working in silos to being more collaborative in their practice.

  • Visa: Although DISES does not provide VISA requirements (they change by country and throughout the year), we do recommend that you check with your country’s Visa policy. For the United States you should be able to find this information on https://www.usa.gov/visas-citizens-traveling-abroad. This is the link to Kenya’s Electronic Travel Authorization: https://www.etakenya.go.ke/en.
  • Travel Insurance: DISES is not responsible for injury or illness during the conference. We recommend you purchase travel insurance.
  • Vaccines/Medication: Please check with your medical professionals to find out which vaccines and medication you need. This will depend on where you plan to travel (e.g., for the conference we will be Nairobi and Lake Naivasha but you may choose to go to Mombasa on the coast or on safari in Masai Mara).
  • Flights: Flights from the US usually take more than one day, so please plan accordingly. Here are some airlines that fly to Nairobi: Qatar, Delta, KLM, Emirates, British, Ethiopian, Air France, Kenyan Airlines, United, JetBlue, and many more.
