DISES President’s Letter – December 2025
Dear DISES Family,
As this year wraps up, I’ve been reflecting on what an incredible journey it has been serving as your DISES President. I’m truly grateful for this community and for the chance to work alongside so many passionate educators, families, partners, and advocates from around the world. DISES is special because of the people who show up, care deeply, and work every day to make education more inclusive—and I’ve been honored to be part of that work with you.
I want to take a moment to thank our outgoing board members: Rebekka Jez, Cheryl Burke, Keri Titterington, and Sofia Mavropoulou. Your time, energy, and heart have shaped so much of what we accomplished this year. I’ve appreciated your guidance, your willingness to step in wherever needed, and the spirit of collaboration you brought to every conversation.
I’m also excited to welcome our new board members: Sudha Krishnan, President-Elect; Renee Webb, Secretary; Valeria Flores Montoya, Member at Large - Communications; and Joana Idakwo, Member at Large - Member Support. Thank you for saying “yes” to serving.
This year also brought important transitions in our leadership team, with a new Executive Director, Nicole DeClouette, and Treasurer, Chanita Jones, joining us. To those stepping out of these roles—thank you for everything you’ve done behind the scenes to keep DISES moving forward. And to our new leaders—welcome! I’m excited to see the new directions and ideas you will bring.
One of the biggest highlights of the year was our conference in Kenya. Being together with attendees from so many countries, sharing stories and practices, and reconnecting with colleagues and friends reminded me why this community matters so much. Thank you to everyone who traveled, presented, planned, or participated—you made it an unforgettable experience.
We’re looking forward with anticipation to our 2026 DISES Conference in Cusco, Peru. Planning is already underway, and I hope many of you will join us there. It’s going to be another amazing opportunity to learn from one another and celebrate the global work we’re all part of.
As I step out of the role of President, I just want to say thank you for supporting DISES, and for the work you do every day in your own communities. I’m leaving this role with gratitude and hope for what lies ahead for our organization.
I’m cheering on our incoming president, Nicci Dowd, and leadership team, and I’ll continue to support DISES in every way I can.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Jennifer Ward
