DISES President’s Letter – March 2024

Hello DISES Folx (and yes, I know I used an “x” instead of a “k” to be most inclusive),

I want to start with honoring all of the service the current and past DISES Board gave to make our presence at the CEC conference last week so impactful (thank you Nicole, Beth, Jen, Nicci, Ritu, Alice, Sofia, Keitha, Mansur, Keri, Robai, Suarym, and Clara! The excitement our current and prospective DISES members shared was palatable. We have some exciting events happening over the next few months:

  • DISES Jan 2024 Virtual Event (updated)
Student Engagement Committee: Join Suarym Quezada on Saturday, March 30th at 6:00pm (EST) for a virtual watch party and discussion on: SKILL #1: Every Semester Needs a Plan. All student members and non-members are welcome! Click this link to register.

  • Virtual Event: Join our interactive panel to learn about inclusive education in the global context on Saturday, April 6th at 11am (EST)- Register here.

  • DISES Getting Involved Committee Check-In: Have you thought of joining a DISES committee? Committees will be meeting on Saturday, April 27 at 11:30am (EST). Join the zoom meeting: https://sandiego.zoom.us/j/7075469696

CEC’s Critical Global Conversations Video Podcast Series is honoring and expressing intersectionality through visual and performing arts. We are asking for youth with disabilities and those who love and support them to submit any form of artistic expression (poems, songs, paintings, dances, writing…) that represents their intersectional identities (e.g., race/ethnicity, language, ability, family structure, gender, and so much more). Submit art here by April 6, 2024.

Once we collect all of the art we will be hosting a virtual gallery on May 4th at 3:00-4:30pm (EST). You can register for the gallery opening here.
